SERVICES

The Akins' school counselors partner with other school professionals, parents, and community members to ensure the academic, career, and personal/social success of all students.

Academics

The school counselors meet with all 9th graders to develop a comprehensive, 4-year plan for academic success. Thereafter, the counselors meet with students one-on-one at least once a year to plan course schedules and academy major sequences, review the student's progress toward graduation, and provide testing strategies and results.

Career Planning

Career planning begins early at Akins, with the counselors assisting all 9th graders in learning Naviance, our college and career planning software. Through the College and Career Center, students learn how to search for, and apply to, colleges and trade schools, and access information about military opportunities, scholarships, grants, and all other forms of financial aid.

Personal/Social Concerns

Partnering with Akins' Student Services and Support office, students are offered individual and group counseling for a variety of topics. Additionally, students are trained to assist in peer mediation services.
